THE DRAGON RETURNS TO NEW GLASGOW’S EAST RIVER.
Pictou County Dragon Boat Festival, Race on the River, 2003!

New Glasgow – After the traditional “dotting of the eye” on Friday evening, folks can sit back and relax to live music with local musicians John “Spyder” MacDonald and CBC Halifax’s The BBQ Kings.

John “Spyder” MacDonald will perform Friday 8PM. The BBQ Kings perform immediately following. The BBQ Kings is made up of six musicians who blend the worlds of zydeco, rock, country, ska & reggae. “We take classics and barbecue’em!” says Jon Domagala who keeps his biceps toned by crunching his authentic Cajun squeezeboxes and piano accordion. Saturday afternoon at 1PM MaJaVi; Rosalee Peppard is next up at 1:40PM - Fleur Mainville & Ross MacVicar 2:20; Brenna Conrad performs at 3:20, Kemptown Stretch at 3:50 PM.

Race organizers this year have added-in a Friday evening celebration of “Light and Life”! “What you will hear” informs Entertainment Committee Chairperson, Shirley Murray “is the skirl of the Scottish pipes drifting over our East River. What you’ll see is the river come alive at night, and what you’ll feel is a wonderful sense of celebrating life, hope, and the spirit of the dragon”!

The Pictou County Dragon Boat Festival will host forty-two racing teams on Saturday, July 26th. With proceeds going to primary benefactors: Women Alike Breast Cancer Support Group; and secondary benefactors, N.S. Special Olympics and N.S. Amateur Sport Fund. Last year’s event yield just under $80,000 for these charities.
